LOW GRADE FUGAL PRESSURISED FEED SYSTEM DESIGN AND
By SEAN O’GORMAN; ROB ATTARD
THE LOW grade fugals at Racecourse have always suffered from limited head
pressure from the crystallisers due to the factory layout. In the past, to enable
reasonable feeding of massecuite to the low grade fugal stage, excessive
molasses dilution was always required. To overcome this problem, a pressurised
feed system was proposed and installed. The upgrade of the LGF station at
Racecourse involved the installation of a common dedicated reheater,
massecuite transfer pump and associated distribution manifold to supply
pressurised massecuite to the low grade fugals on the stage. This paper outlines
the design, installation and operational experiences of this capital project.
