PERFORMANCE OF A TANDEM OF BUNDABERG TWO-ROLL MILLS
By P CHOHAN; CA GARSON
WHEN constructed, Tableland mill was the first sugar factory built in
Queensland for more than 70 years. Its first year of operation was 1998. The
Tableland factory is unique in that its crushing tandem consists solely of two-roll
Bundaberg High Extraction Mills (BHEMs). This paper documents the
performance and operational experience of the Tableland tandem. The low final
bagasse moisture and modest specific power consumption of the Tableland
tandem are especially attractive when sugar cane is viewed as renewable
biomass with an energy content significantly in excess of that required for the
production of crystal sugar. The low final bagasse moisture achieved at
Tableland contributes significantly to the efficiency of the boiler and the good
overall operation of that station.
