Identification of SNP markers linked to resistance to root-knot nematode, Meloidogyne javanica, using transcriptome analysis

Root-knot nematodes (RKNs, Meloidogyne javanica) are widely distributed and are economically important parasites of sugarcane crops. Studies have shown that nematodes cause from 5 to 20% yield loss per year, which costs the sugarcane industry more than AU$80 million. Screening of varieties and wild Saccharum germplasm has identified some accessions with resistance to RKNs.
