A REVIEW OF TRAINING IN CANE SUGAR TECHNOLOGY

By

DURING THE PAST ten years, important changes took place in the world sugar industry. As a result aspects such as technology, research, economic values and productivity were discussed in recent sugar literature, but there is little on training. This is surprising since cane sugar industries have been involved with training for a long time. This review establishes what was and is available as far as training in cane sugar technology, delivered in English, is concerned. The word “technology” here covers chemistry, engineering, by products, waste management, safety, the environment, etc. Information from Australia, South Africa, Mauritius, Louisiana and other sources is used. The review highlights the availability of training, its scope, how and where it is delivered. The relevance of training in sugar technology, particularly for Australia, is discussed.
