EFFECTIVE MANAGEMENT OF CORRECTIVE MAINTENANCE WORK DURING THE CRUSHING SEASON

By

THE EFFECTIVE MANAGEMENT of corrective maintenance work during the crushing season is an essential ingredient in reducing equipment downtime. Maintenance Supervisors require a list of approved and planned work ready for execution and with a defined completion date. In 2013 Mackay Sugar conducted a review of the effectiveness of managing corrective maintenance work. This paper describes the review of existing practices in approving, planning and scheduling work and the resulting changes to the process including the development of the Crush Work Order Manager tool. Through the use of the Crush Work Order Manager tool, the Maintenance Supervisor now has a simple list of planned corrective maintenance work including the required completion date for the work displayed in SAP. The Maintenance Supervisor can now more effectively manage corrective maintenance work through better utilisation of available labour and materials required for planned work orders.
